This truly is a historic Third Reich artifact! This hand operated air raid siren was made 1940 by Helin, Germany. It is stamped with the makers mark, is dated 1940 and has a serial number 831. The hand crank works fine and makes the interior parts spin without any problems. When fully cranked the siren makes the distinctive and loud sound the German people heard when the Allied bombers were approaching. By pulling the spring loaded lever at the top while cranking the handle the noise gets even louder! There are no parts missing or damaged, the bakelite parts have no cracks. The only imperfections are a broken off piece at the top which does not affect the functionality and the handle slips a bit when cranked. This can be easily fixed but we did not make an attempt to disassamble the siren. A rare addition to every collection of historical Third Reich material!
