The Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten was one of the many paramilitary organizations that arose after the end of World War I in the Weimar Repub-lic. The Stahlhelm was founded at the end of 1918 partly by Franz Seldte in the city of Magdeburg. Its periodical, Stahlhelm, was edited by Count Hans-Jürgen von Blumenthal who was later hanged for his part in the failed attempt to kill Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. The organization attracted na-tionalistic and anti-Weimar elements and in 1930 the Stahlhelm has become the largest paramilitary organization of Weimar Germany with 500,000 mem-bers. In 1934 the Stahlhelm was renamed Nationalsozialistischer Deutscher Front-kämpferbund (Federation of the National Socialist Frontline-Fighters) and integrated into the Sturmabteilung (SA), in 1935 the organization was completely dissolved by the Nazis.

This very interesting set consists of two 7-1/2 x 10 inch hardcover books with a total of about 750 pages with countless photographs, making it probably the most comprehensive documentation on the Stahlhelm Bund der Frontsoldaten (Steel Helmet League of Frontline Soldiers) published in the Third Reich (and maybe even until today)! The books were published by order of Franz Seldte, founder and head of the Stahlhelmbund. The publisher was the Stahlhelm Verlag in Berlin. Both books are in very good condition with only two excep-tions: volume one has one crack in the binding (just one, the rest of the bin-ding os tight) and a cigarette burn mark (see photo below left) is the only im-perfection on volume two. A one-of-a-kind reference for anyone interested in the history of this biggest of all right wing paramilitary organizations that were founded after the end of World War One in Germany!
