THE AWARD FOR FOREIGNERS WHO DID SOMETHING FOR THE HAIL OF THE GERMAN THIRD REICH

In May 1937 Adolf Hitler personally instituted the MERITORIOUS ORDER OF THE GERMAN EAGLE, an award for diplomatic personalities, other foreign personages who came to Germany. In the beginning, this order was to be bestowed ONLY to foreign statesmen and dignitaries. As is well known, one of the first such personalities was the American Charles Lindbergh who was bestowed the neck order and star on October 19, 1938. Another was noted American Industrialist Henry Ford.

were for Alferez Don Manuel Quinjano y G. de Rueda who was awarded the Verdienstkreuz Des Ordens Vom Deutschen Adler Dritter Stufe Mit Schwertern in May 1939. Alferez is a military rank (comparable to Lieutenant) in Spain and Argentina. In historic days the Alferez carried the unit flag on horseback.
