the album is dated 1935 and under several pictures is an explanation saying something about an "Abstimmung" (Vote). It probably was the vote of the people in the Saar region who voted in 1935 if they wanted to remain under French control or become a part of Germany again. Nearly every German in the Saar region voted for the second option and in 1935 the Saar region was German again. The picture above shows the decorated restaurant where the inhabitants of the village could vote. Please note the pennants and small Nazi flags used to decorate the place. We have similar ones listed on this web site which can be seen by clicking on the links above.

he and his HJ group must have visited a factory and he took several pictures of that

HITLER YOUTH PHOTO ALBUM

IT BELONGED TO A HJ BOY FROM A VILLAGE IN THE SAAR REGION AND CONTAINS A VARIETY OF INTERESTING PHOTOGRAPHS!

Offered for sale is a very interesting original photo album containing pictures a Hitler Youth boy took and pasted them into this album. The boy lived in Überherrn, a municipality in the district of Saarlouis, in Saarland, Germany. It is situated along the river Bist on the border with France, approx. 10 km (6.21 mi) southwest of Saarlouis, and 20 km (12.43 mi) west of Saarbrücken. The album gives a great impression what was important enough for a boy from a village in Nazi Germany to be captured in photo-graphs. There are pictures of the decorated village on occasion of the "Abstimmung" (Vote) in 1935 which was the vote of the people in the Saar region to become part of Germany again (the Treaty of Versailles put this region under French control). Other photos show the group of the HJ boy on tour, formations marching through the village, the visit of a factory, family pictures, photos of the countryside, either taken on trips with his Hitler Youth buddies or showing the nature and architecture of where he lived. As you can expect from a boy of around 12 years the photos are not all pasted perfectly square into the album, many of them have a handwritten explanation below the photo. There is a total of 97 photos in this album.

the HJ boy took a snapshot of HJ Leader Baldur von Schirach who visited the village, probably to support the vote that took place in the Saar region in 1935.

SA, BDM, HJ and other formations marching through the village

on the way back from a trip with his HJ group

part of the album contains photos the boy probably took while he was traveling with his Hitler Youth group, showing places they went to. The last pages are mostly family pictures.

the boy also took a picture of teh anti-Semitic sign at the entrance of the village, saying "Jews are not welcome"!
