A very interesting 5-1/4 x 7-1/2 inches 68 pages soft cover book with original dust cover, written from Heinrich Zerkaulen and printed 1939 from the Nationalsozialistischer Verlag Gau Sachsen in Dresden, Germany. The book is in very good condition.

The book is about a tour on a KdF ship to the Portugese Island Madeira and contains very interesting photos.

Before the National Socialists took over in 1933 not very many Germans had the opportunity to spend their vacation in foreign countries. Many of them had never seen anything but their hometown and the maybe the next two villages. But by creating the "Kraft durch Freude" or KdF in the Deutsche Arbeitsfront German workers were now having well organized vacations from the German coast to the German Alps and also cruises to Norway or even to Madeira! The goal of the entire KdF (which means "strenght through joy") was that only a worker who had a relief in his vacation will be a good worker once back at his workplace. A very revolutionary idea in the 1930s!
