ITEM #DOC - 11 ARBEITSAMT MELDEKARTE (EMPLOYMENT OFFICE REPORT CARD) The document below was issued to unemployed citizen's in the Reich. The purpose was to keep track of every individual who was without a job. They had to report to their local em-ployment office on a strict schedule, failure to show up or even not being punctual could mean the loss of any kind of contributions the unemployed received from the state. Every visit at the local employment office was documented on the back side of this card, also if and when the individual was able to find work. The owner of this card, Willi Barton, resident of the city of Dresden, was still unemployed towards the end of 1934. When the National Socialists came to power in 1933 the country of Germany had a record high unemployment rate and it took the several years to bring the employment situation back to normal and even to a record low of which the German government can only dream of today.
