RARE 1943 metallrahmenausweis (identification card in metal frame) This seldom seen I.D. card was issued to Wilhelm Dieckmann on September 1, 1943. He was a guard at the Sperrwaffenarsenal Heinschenwalde. The Sperrwaffenarsenal Heinschenwalde existed already since early 1933 and mainly sea-mines for the naval bases Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven were stored here. The Sperrwaffen-arsenal was a restricted area and could only be entered with the correct documents. The metal frame identification card was created to make it mor difficult to counterfeit documents that would give unauthorized individuals access to war important fac-tories or Wehr-macht, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine depots such as Heinschenwalde. The document is mounted inside a metal frame which is riveted through the photo of the owner of the ID. Enclosed in this very in-teresting grouping are the following documents: Wilhem Dieck-mann's Arbeitsbuch in which his employment at the Sperrwaffen-arsenal is documented (with matching numbers), two documents of his discharge from the active duty in the Wehrmacht (he served from October 2, 1941 to September 2, 1944 and from then on be-came a guard at the Kriegsmarine depot) and a receipt from a field hospital in Breslau, dated 1942 for an artificial arm and some other orthopedic supplies This explains why he was discharged from ac-tive duty at a time when the Wehrmacht needed everybody who could hold a weapon: he lost an arm!
