item #W - 59
Offered for sale is a RARE COMPLETE SET OF EIGHT THIRD REICH POLICE / SS FIGURINES GIVEN BY THE WINTERHILFSWERK (WHW) AS A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION FOR DONATIONS MADE TO THE NAZI WINTER AID PROGRAM On September 13, 1933 Adolf Hitler and Dr. Joseph Goebbels officially started the first Winterhilfswerk des deutschen Volkes (Winter Aid Program Of The German People). The goal was to collect as much money as possible to support the many Germans who still lived in hunger and poverty in the first year of National Socialist Germany. 358 million Reichsmark were collected in the first year and each year the amount of money that the German people gave was increased until it reached 680(!) million Reichs-mark in the winter 1939/40. Some (or many?) said that the WHW indirectly helped to finance the war because the social welfare from the state could be cut back and the freed money could be used to rearm the country. Everyone who made a donation received a small gift in return as a token of appreciation. The WHW came up with a variety of small series of miniature books i.e. on Adolf Hitler, small plastic figurines of battle ships, fighter planes and, as offered here, different branches of Third Reich Police/SS. As far as we know the lot that is offered for sale, consisting of eight items, is the complete WHW Police set. They are between 1-1/2 and 1-3/4 inch tall and in very good condition. Each one has a hole in the head to attach a string and hang them i.e. on the Christmas tree. Please click on the links below to see other |
